ABSTRACT

In this chapter we explore the affinity between action learning and professional development and show how action learning can support continuing professional development. The most well known use of action learning is in the management area but increasingly people are describing the enormous benefit action learning can have in other areas of professional development. We have designed programmes of action learning for professional groups, eg social services professionals, housing specialists, and health professionals. In higher education, action learning is being used in staff development programmes for managers, academic staff and administrators (see Chapter 13).
