ABSTRACT
John jenkins was born in Pembroke on 27 May 1852, the son of a shipwright and preacher. Upon leaving school, he sought to follow in his father’s footsteps by seeking employment at the Government Dockyards. He was refused for not being heavy enough but did not let this end his ambition. He eventually gained an apprenticeship as a shipwright before moving to Cardiff where he completed this apprenticeship.
