ABSTRACT

George davy kelley was born 4 March 1848 in Rushington, Lincolnshire. His father, Thomas, was a cooper. He was educated at the village school where he began to train as a schoolmaster. His parents had planned for him to be a vicar but he only served two and a half years as a pupil teacher before his parents were moved to York. It was there that he obtained an apprenticeship as a lithographer. Once fully trained, he left for London and subsequently went on to live in Birmingham and Leeds before settling for some time in Bradford.
