ABSTRACT

Introduction A stent acts as a scaffold spanning a segment of a tubular organ. Prostatic stents span the prostatic urethra from the bladder neck to urinary sphincter. Typically, they have been used either temporarily (three months or less) or permanently. Temporary stents may be either removable or biodegradable and are not designed to be incorporated into the urethral wall. Permanent stents become part of the urethral wall as they are invaded and covered by urothelium.
