ABSTRACT

Introduction Pregnant women with dilatation of the upper urinary tract, and especially those with renal colic, present a challenge to urologists and gynaecologists. Renal colic may precipitate premature delivery, and X-ray exposure, medication, anaesthesia and invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures may be potentially harmful to the foetus.1-3 Physicians therefore fear to endanger the pregnancy by insufficient or excessive interventions.4
