ABSTRACT

A common source of physical disability attributed to work and other injuries is pain. Pain complaints result in millions of physician office visits per year (Woodwell & Cherry, 2004) and as many as 150 million days of lost work to the U.S. labor force (Guo, Tanaka, Cameron, Seligman, Behrens, & Ger, 1995; Guo, Tanaka, Halperin, & Cameron, 1999). Low back pain is one of the most debilitating, frequent, and costly health complaints. Of all major musculoskeletal complaints, low back pain is the symptom that is most related to poor health-related quality of life measures (Morken, Riise, Moen, Bergum, Hauge, Holien, et al., 2002).
