ABSTRACT

We argued ealier that there can be differences between the information recruited during the processing of living and non-living things, with these differences emerging as a function of the modality of presentation (e.g. with perceptual knowledge being drawn on for living things, even with verbal input). We have also argued, prior to this, that perceptual knowledge is likely to play a more dominant role in the naming of living things than in the naming of non-living things. We now wish to return to this last issue, to consider this dominant role for perceptual knowledge in more detail.
