The above rule as regards general average sacrifice does not apply to a general average expenditure. The reason for making of this distinction, according to Arnould, is that expenditures ‘do not involve the loss or destruction of any part of any particular interest, so as to make the underwriters on that interest directly liable in respect of the whole thereof’.99
