ABSTRACT

Data for climate change analyses can come from or through the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), the Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP), the ECMWF and from national meteorological services. The nature of the topic means that many of the datasets are from Earth observation satellites, as well as in situ monitoring networks. The Goddard Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) produced a dataset known as the Climatology Interdisciplinary Data Collection that covers almost all of the parameters listed in Table 5.3, and was designed for the study of global change, seasonal to interannual climate change, and other phenomena that require many interacting parameters. The collection comprises datasets covering atmospheric dynamics and atmospheric sounding products, radiation and clouds, biosphere data, measured atmospheric constituents, measured surface temperature and pressure, hydrological data and remote sensing science products. This dataset is freely available for browsing purposes on the British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) website (BADC 2004), and the data itself can be ordered on CD-ROM from the Goddard DAAC. Many of the datasets are also freely available by anonymous FTP via the Goddard DAAC’s website (DAAC 2004).
