ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the possibilities of the BRICS countries in reshaping the current global communication order as an emerging power bloc. It covers the preliminary case studies that may serve as signposts from which to observe whether the BRICS countries are emerging as a potential power bloc in reshaping global communication in the realms of infrastructure building and global Internet governance. It is easy to take a cynical view of the attempt to engage the BRICS concept seriously in studying contemporary global communication. The chapter covers both a preliminary attempt to view a changing global communication landscape through the words and deeds of the BRICS countries and as an analysis of global news discourses about the BRICS nations in communication-related matters. The quotient of success or failure of an international grouping is determined by the level of connectivity among members of the grouping and what steps the body has taken to bridge the gaps.
