ABSTRACT
NATURE OF THE FLASHPOINT Iraq has been at the center of U.S. national security policy since the end of the Cold War. No other single country has consumed more American attention, wealth, and political capital since 1990. Furthermore, given the magnitude of the U.S. investment in Iraq, coupled with its strategic location, the country is likely to remain one of the most significant U.S. policy interests for years to come.
