ABSTRACT

Once it becomes evident that one partner in a couple has dementia, it is known that emotional isolation lies ahead, not to mention a range of practical problems. This risk of emotional separation applies not only to the couple with respect to their social environment, but also to the individual partners with respect to each other. In the same way as visiting the Alzheimer Café together, attending group (psycho)therapy together has the aim of preventing this emotional isolation or at least delaying it for as long as possible.
