ABSTRACT

In 1982, Wu Rukang and Dong Xingren postulated a close relationship between the Homo erectus specimens from the Hexian find (as it is referred to) and from Zhoukoudian Locality 1 (Wu & Dong, 1985). Still, “certain progressive features are noted in the Hexian individual. For example, the postorbital constriction is not as pronounced as in ‘Peking Man’ and is, in fact, less marked than in the Dali hominid from Shaanxi Province, which is thought to be archaic Homo sapiens” (Wu & Dong, 1985:87).
