ABSTRACT
Because ice caves contain perennial ice, there is interest in its climatic implications. Marshall and Brown (1974) analysed massive ice from Coultard Cave in the southern Canadian Rocky Mountains, thinking it to be glacier ice, which is climatically significant. However, crystallographic study of the ice showed it to be unstrained and therefore not to have been glacially intruded into the cave.
