ABSTRACT

A tracing experiment between an active swallow hole and the main springs revealed an average speed of about 400 m h−1 over a distance of about 10 km and a difference in elevation of 1000 m (Gennari et al., 1989). The response of the springs to the input of heavy precipitation may be only a few hours (Celi & Sauro, 1995).
