ABSTRACT
The aims of this chapter are to provide a general overview of current UK legislation and consider how such legislation may impact upon the working practices of library and information services (LIS) and information professionals. It is essential that LIS and information professionals understand the basic concepts of data protection and consider the implications in order for them to ensure that operations are conducted within the law.
