ABSTRACT

What about the initial meetings of the parents who were going to be involved as plaintiffs in this case?

Scales: The men [fathers] had two jobs and kept the kids while we went to the meetings. We was churchgoers and we knew how to stay out of trouble. Just mothers were at the meetings. We met at the post office in the Justice Room. I went there rain, sleet or shine. The African American teachers were disturbed about losing their jobs, because the principal at Washington Elementary School told them that if they participated they would lose their jobs. A lot [of them] did what he asked.
