If aesthetics is for artists what ornithology is for the birds (Barnett Newman), where does that leave art historians? Poisoning pigeons in the park (Tom Lehrer)? But seriously, leaving the birds out of it, what is the interest or utility of aesthetics for art historians? Specifically, what use do we have for the concept of beauty?
