ABSTRACT

Since 1992, teachers in maintained schools have provided a music curriculum which has met the statutory requirements of the national curriculum for Music. The revised orders of 1995, and those of 2000, have continued to engage teachers in an ongoing curriculum debate. The design of the national curriculum for Music, with its programmes of study and end of key stage descriptions, has also influenced the way in which teachers plan their schemes of work, although there has been room for flexibility of interpretation regarding teaching content and methodology.
