ABSTRACT
The history of the development of school examinations in music is to a large extent the history of general school music. Indeed, even as we write the whole music curriculum and attendant examination syllabi are undergoing a thorough overhaul representing further important developments. This chapter does not deal with examinations for instrumentalists, except where they are specifically related to general music examinations.
