ABSTRACT
Section 96 of the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000 provides that, where an offender who has attained the age of 18 but is under 21 is convicted of an offence which is punishable with imprisonment in the case of an offender who has attained the age of 21, the court may impose a sentence of detention in a young offender institution.
