ABSTRACT

Section 14 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 empowers a local authority to ban children of specified ages under 10 from being in a public place within a specified area, during specified hours (between 9 pm and 6 am), otherwise than under the effective control of a parent or responsible person aged 18 or over. The order can last for a maximum of 90 days and only comes into operation if confirmed by the Secretary of State. The scheme is publicised by means of curfew notices.
