Is there an increase in female crime? Does the liberation of women necessitate that they become as criminal as men?

It is argued that if the social position of women changes in such a way that they come to share the same privileges and resources as men – if they become more powerful – then it follows that there should be a convergence between the sexes in the frequency and pattern of crimes they commit. Therefore does emancipation mean that females will commit more serious crimes?
