ABSTRACT
Until recently, the diagnosis of retained products of conception invariably led to surgical evacuation of the uterus. This is not now thought necessary and far larger numbers of women are being left to miscarry naturally or being treated with drugs to cause uterine contraction. If conservative or medical management is decided upon, the patient must remain under close observation, as long term problems can arise from retained products.
