ABSTRACT
Face presentation is diagnosed by feeling the facial features during a vaginal examination. This can be difficult, as the pressures of labour cause the face to become oedematous but, usually, the eyes and nose can be detected and the examining finger will pass into the mouth. This can be distinguished from the anus by the presence of jaws and gums and the absence of meconium on withdrawing the examining finger.
