ABSTRACT
Ben and Gus, two hit men, await kill orders, but instead of orders, matches appear under the door. Discussion about their purpose leads to argument till Ben, the senior partner, strikes Gus. The dumb waiter next arrives with orders, not the expected orders but orders for food that the men nevertheless attempt to fill. The dumb waiter repeatedly ascends empty until the men send up what food they have brought. A voice at the other end rejects the food-Ben again strikes Gus. The men receive yet another in a series of food orders they are unable to fill. While Gus is out of the room, Ben finally receives the awaited order to proceed as usual, presumably as the two had just rehearsed it, then calls Gus. When Gus enters, stripped of waistcoat and gun, Ben levels his gun at him. One of the killers becomes an intended victim.
