Leading the evidence

The trial is in open court, so the evidence is given in court to which the public has access, and the proceedings may be published. If statute provides otherwise, then the matter may be heard in the absence of members of the public, such as in sexual offence trials in some jurisdictions. There is, however, usually no restriction of reporting in such cases unless statute also specifies.8
