ABSTRACT

By the time this article is published, its reader will know whether Yeltsin is still in power or not, dead or alive, drunk or sober, a good or bad guy with the West, and many more things of the same kind – things that, as yet, I do not know. However, contrary to popular belief, such things do not matter much because the tendencies of Russian business and economic/political and business/legal developments are predetermined by factors other than Mr Yeltsin’s personality and the success or non-success of his inner political and power/economic circle. That might seem strange, but only if we fail to realise what modern Russian politics and influence over business realities is all about. Unfortunately, the West has failed in this respect.
