ABSTRACT

Born in Denver, Hogan lived part of her childhood in a housing project in Colorado Springs and in Germany. Because her family originates from Oklahoma, she maintains close ties there. Her father is Chickasaw; her mother is from an immigrant Nebraska family. Hogan has stated that there were no books in her home, but that stories told by her father and uncle were a literary resource that has enriched her writing (autobiographical statement, 78).
