ABSTRACT
The laboratory in a district general hospital (DGH) is a complex and specialised area within which there are usually at least four departments: biochemistry, haematology, microbiology and histology. Autopsy, or post mortem examination, which is performed by some pathologists, is not considered in this chapter.
