ABSTRACT
Correction of septal deflections is by no means straightforward, and it is especially difficult where the nose has been seriously damaged and distorted in the past, and where there is scarring or loss of tissue from previous injury or indeed from previous surgery. The majority of septal corrections are satisfactory, but there is always a risk that the surgeon will fail to relieve the nasal obstruction completely, despite the application of the best techniques available. It is important for patients to understand this. Post-operatively, there will be some soreness, and if the maxillary crest has been removed, there may be numbness of the upper incisor teeth for some weeks post-operatively, although this invariably recovers, and the vitality of the teeth is not impaired.
