ABSTRACT
Before embarking on a description of the diseases of the ear and their medicolegal impact, it is important to summarise the symptoms of ear disease. They are as follows.
• Hearing loss (hypoacusis or deafness)—Complete deafness (anacusis) is fortunately rare and most hearing loss is partial, occurring in varying degrees from mild to profound, as described under audiometry.
