ABSTRACT

There is no specific treatment for globus syndrome. In appropriate cases antireflux therapy can be helpful, and if the symptoms are associated with inflammation of the hypopharynx, irritants should be avoided. It is obvious that the patient who is a heavy smoker must be seen as being at particular risk of having a tumour in the area, and endoscopic examination is all the more important in such cases. Many patients respond to simple reassurance. Some unfortunately have persisting symptoms and cannot be helped beyond being assured that the symptoms present no threat to their health or wellbeing.
