ABSTRACT
Whilst audit had been for many years as a professional tool, used variably but especially by forward thinking practices, with the changes in the NHS introduced in the first half of the 1990s medical audit became an activity that was expected of all doctors. To facilitate this, but at the same time ensure that audit was professionally led, the Medical Audit Advisory Groups were established.
