ABSTRACT

Myocardial infarction, commonly referred to as a ‘heart attack’ or coronary, is caused by the sudden decrease in coronary blood flow with resulting ischaemic damage to heart muscle.

It is the commonest cause of male deaths in the UK and can effect young men, although it is usually the middle aged and elderly that are effected.
