ABSTRACT

Dementia occurs in 6-7% of the population aged over 65 years and is especially common in those without educational qualifications (21% as opposed to 1% in graduates). The maxim ‘if you don’t use it you lose it’ may well apply. The incidence in those aged over 75 is 12-15% and in those aged over 80 is 20%.
