ABSTRACT
An ectopic pregnancy is one where the ovum is fertilised and develops outside the uterine cavity, most commonly in the fallopian tube but in 1% of cases elsewhere. It generally develops without symptoms for three to six weeks before presenting. This important topic is dealt with fully in the chapter on gynaecology.
