ABSTRACT
Ear syringing is a procedure regularly delegated to practice nurses who are often more expert in the technique than the GP himself. As with the delegation of any procedure it is the GP’s responsibility to ensure adequate training and the achievement of competence before allowing the nurse to proceed without supervision, and he should be prepared to do the procedure personally in the event of the nurse encountering difficulties.
