Academic Reading and Writing Difficulties and Strategic Knowledge of Generation 1.5 Learners

Generation 1.5 students vary greatly in the level of academic reading and writing preparation that they receive in U.S. K-12 schools. Because of this and because of the prolonged time that it takes to acquire academic English, students may enter college unprepared for the complex and language intensive reading and writing tasks that are demanded of college freshmen.
