ABSTRACT
Before an interview for an internship position, a student imagines the conversation she is to have with the interviewer. She considers questions he may pose and prepares appropriate answers accordingly. In a different setting, a teenager may repeat a conversation he held with a classmate he admires, hoping to decode a love hint or fi nd a concealed message. Such examples, which occur across cultures on a daily basis, testify to the pervasiveness of a communication phenomenon we refer to as intrapersonal communication.
