ABSTRACT

Supplemental educational services (SES) are free tutoring services off ered to students outside of school hours.2 Designed to enhance educational opportunities for low income children in failing schools, SES are paid for by the local education agency (LEA), and are available to students who are both eligible for free or reduced-price lunch and attend a Title I school that has failed to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three or more consecutive years under a state’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) accountability policy. SES are off ered through a variety of entities, including for-profi t, non-profi t, local community, school district, and college and university tutoring programs.
