ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the psychological evaluation of individuals who have filed claims for disability benefits under two different systems. One is under a disability insurance policy that has been purchased by the insured or by the insured’s employer. The other is under the Social Security system when a claimant files for Social Security benefits under one of several relevant Social Security programs. In the first case, the evaluation is conducted at the request of an insurance carrier. In the second, the evaluation is done at the request of either the Social Security Administration or the Social Security claimant.
