Lifelong learning, continuous learning, adaptability, career resilience, continuous improvement, self-development, recycling … The message has been crystal clear: The employer–employee relationship has changed (e.g., Arthur & Rousseau, 1996; Rousseau, 2005), as evidenced by the frequency with which individuals’ employers are changing (e.g., Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2004; Light, 2005) and the fact that a temporary agency (Manpower, Incorporated) has been and continues to be the largest employer in the United States (“The 2006 Fortune 500,” 2006; Hall, 2002).
