ABSTRACT

Introduction Th e purpose of this chapter, together with the one that follows, is to establish the theoretical framework for this volume. We begin with an overview of the emergence of school-university partnership in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia during the 1980s and 1990s. We chose these three countries primarily because collectively they have provided the major source of the research literature on school-university partnership. From the vast amount of literature available, we identify and illuminate a number of themes and issues that will be examined in greater depth in the remainder of the volume.
