ABSTRACT
The mismatch between workplace and workforce is manifested in ways both large and small. On the grand scale, there are changes in the nature of work and employment arrangements, new technologies that seemingly erode the limitations of space and time, increased participation of women in the workforce, and the often demanding dictates of global competition (Osterman, Kochan, Locke, & Piore, 2001). These transformations become especially real for families when they alter the fabric of everyday life. Such alterations can seem trite or merely difficult to see, but they are redefining the familiar landmarks of daily life.
