ABSTRACT

Other chapters in this volume demonstrate the strong theoretical and substantive contributions of sociology, economics, psychology, and anthropology to our understanding of the workplace-workforce mismatch or work-family conflict. As the chapters also demonstrate, however, there is little epidemiological research. Consequently, the fields’ strengths have not been integrated within epidemiology, whose focus is assessing exposure, defining health outcomes, and understanding the causes of illnesses, injuries, and diseases. Integrating epidemiological design concepts and measurement issues could help develop effective interventions that reduce illness, injury, and disease and improve health.
