ABSTRACT
My daughter, a French-English bilingual, said the above sentence when she was five years old. To someone familiar only with monolingual conversations, this sentence might sound as if she were arbitrarily using words from her two languages, making a kind of language salad. When parents of bilingual children hear mixed-language sentences, they sometimes worry that learning two languages confuses their children. Does bilingualism confuse children?
