ABSTRACT

Kurt Lewin has been credited with the astute observation that there is nothing as practical as a good theory. Although the historical record shows this to be an insight borrowed from an anonymous businessman, Lewin found it to be an apt description of the dynamic relationship he advocated for the relation of theoretical insights generated by laboratory tests of formal theory to the problems and issues of everyday life. Social psychology has vigorously pursued this mission as an exporter of our knowledge to other fields, and health psychology provides an excellent example of the values Lewin espoused.
