ABSTRACT
In this volume devoted to the bridging of social psychology, I would like to argue for the importance of theory development. Theories are bridges that concatenate isolated domains of our discipline, connect us to our past, and forge links to other social sciences. Social psychology is like a fragmented archipelago that tore from its continent of origin (or its past) and is sequestered from other surrounding continents (other social science disciplines). Bridges are in order.
