ABSTRACT

the angels, Adam and Eve and the prophets, the patriarchs, and saints glorified her. The one for All Saints Day recounts the dedication of the Pantheon in 605 to the Blessed Virgin and all the saints. For Trinity Sunday, one of the great mysteries of faith is explained in the best tradition of medieval philosophy Most of the legends in this work are based on the Legenda Áurea, but the Catalogas Sanctorum is the source of the legend of St. Potenciana and the legend of St. Dorothy comes from the De Sanctis of the popular Hungarian preacher, Plébart of Temesvár. Most of the saints are virgins and martyrs from the early days of the Church, though St. Helena is included as an example of chaste widowhood. While following her sources fairly closely, Ráskai nevertheless shows some passages of rare poetic beauty, particularly in the legend of St. Dorothy. She also copied about half of the Példák kônyve (The Book of Examples) in 1510, in 1517 the legend of life of St. Dominic, and in 1522 the Horváth codex. Her contribution to Hungarian literature has provided a rich source of earlier traditions.
